Dining Rooms and Romance

Dining rooms and romance definitely go hand in hand-but that’s not what this post is about. I have a dining room concept to work on so I’ll save that for a future topic. My thoughts today are on my love of a lantern hanging in my dining room.

I’ve shared the progress of my own home renovation and decorating on Instagram (JulieMInteriors) and I’ve been asked many times about the light fixture above my dining table.

Meet Darlana by Visual Comfort. No glass to clean and it’s a terrific scale for above a dining table or a kitchen island. Classic.

Here is a pair in polished nickel.

It’s simple yet stylish.

Back to thinking about romance. Another project I’m working on is a master suite. My client wants it to be serene and calm with a romantic quality.

These Miles Redd designs for Schumacher would be a gorgeous way to add a romantic quality to any master bedroom without too much femininity. Pillows or drapery panels would be stunning! The colorways are gorgeous-see more here.

Inspiration starts in many ways but for me I love to turn to fabrics.

I’ve got one week until completion and install of a client bonus room- it’s Amazing! Also, soon to hold a photo shoot for a bungalow I’ve completed. So, here’s to great projects and sharing. Next, I’ll begin sharing concepts for new spaces – including a dining room and this master suite.

I’d love to help you love the space you’re in. See my services and email me at julie@juliemontgomeryinteriors.com

Lighting Design

Lighting design is by far one of the most important elements in a home update, renovation, or new build. Don’t let lighting be something that you just grab during a panic attack because your electrician needed it yesterday! Don’t do it. Plan for all of your lighting in the beginning of your project.

Your electrician is going to ask you what type of light will be used in every single space during the framing phase of a construction project. They need to know the type of fixture you will want installed. Is it a ceiling fan with or without a light, a semi-flush mount, flush mount, pendant, chandelier, sconce, recessed…and on and on. Then, your electrician will need to know the location of light switches and which require dimmers…and on and on.

You then need to consider if any rooms require floor outlets – and that you may only know if you know your space plan and furniture layout. Oh, and then there’s the location of cables, phones, speakers…. It’s a lot! I shared the importance of planning in this post (here).

Back to lighting.

I planned out the lighting needs in our renovation when the project first began. This does not mean I chose the exact fixtures but I did have some clear idea of what was needed and what I liked. Lighting makes a space and can set the style in your home.

The wow factor when you walk in my home is our entry chandelier illuminating the barrel ceiling-which we added and love.

The lighting choices in our open living space work together in my transitional style but have different finishes and interest. Here’s a glimpse of some of our lighting.

I won’t leave you hanging on this topic because there is so much more! I happen to LOVE lighting and what it does to a space. It’s magic! If you need help with your project I offer a Renovation Rescue service along with my other services, here.

Design and Renovate: A Lighting Plan

As we design and renovate our home it is essential that I stay a step ahead of the builder’s schedule. One of the most time consuming areas to consider in the design process is the lighting plan. You need to determine the locations and numbers of recessed lights, sconces, mounted lights, switches, outlets, dimmers…so that the electrician can get to work before the walls or ceilings are closed up. Determining the lighting plan is not easy and it ‘s not fun.

Sourcing the exact style of lighting could come later but I’ve already begun to play–and made a few decisions. I’m more of a I like it lets do this now type of person.

I am staying with the same finish in the main living spaces-polished nickel. You can see these areas from other rooms; therefor, I am mindful of the relationship they should have in order to get the look I want in the space. Here’s where I’m heading:

These are the jewels of the home! #followmyrenovation on Instagram (JulieMInteriors) too!

Simply Savvy Lights Up the Night

Do you find yourself lingering outside more in the evenings?  It’s getting cooler but it’s also getting darker earlier.  I’m looking at lighting options for our back patio so that we can enjoy our outdoor space even more . We need mood lighting that’s festive, fun, and inviting.

I’m leaning towards strands of lights for the patio with individual lights down one tree. This might just be my weekend project!

With the help of Pinterest (follow me, here) and Olioboard (visit my boards, here) I collected my ideas and placed them on one image.

Which do you love? Have you lit up your space? Share your image. I love sharing back.

redesign with style in all spaces…adding chandelier glam

Getting organized is a task but being organized evokes many feelings. The feeling you get when you walk into any space, open a drawer, or replace your things should be one of peace, calm, and delight.  It may be as simple as choosing coordinating boxes for opened shelving, adding printed contact paper to drawers, or seeing your socks rolled into dividers that are easy  to find.  I believe that all spaces have potential to bring style and order to your home, and increase the feeling of loving each space you are in.

I recently worked with two clients that were transforming new spaces, just for them.  Both clients were surprised when I stated that their rooms (a master closet and an office) deserved a special touch, a glam detail, a reflection of their style. These spaces need chandeliers!

If you spend a great deal of time in the laundry room, home office, bathroom, and bedroom (of course you do!) than why not add details that give you pure delight. Special touches can make you space proud, which helps in the maintenance of your newly found order. For your stylized moment, it may not be a chandelier; however, maybe it should be. Take a look at these inspirational spaces, they are organized and have style that reaches high and low!

I love glam and glitz in the laundry room, but I also like how these include additional touches like wall details and tiled carpets.

A design touch of romance in the bedroom that’s chic and sophisticated, is good for everyone!

Don’t forget your hide-away home office or craft space.  Adding a patterned rug can really make a statement and show some personality.

We spend much of our time in the bathroom showering and getting ready for the day. Enjoy that space.

I hope this inspires you to add stylish details to all spaces in your home- it’s just simply good for you! Be house proud and love all the spaces you are in. All photo credits and more inspiration can be found on the Simply Savvy Pinterest board.

I’d love to hear about simple touches (or chandelier touches) you’ve added to a space. Share a comment, share a link. If you have a big transformation, email me the details and images. I love sharing back!
